Category Definitions

The Quest edits pieces differently depending on what category they fall into. The Quest’s current content categories and standards are:

  • Reports: News and fact-based stories focused on Minerva Schools and the Minerva student community. Reports must contain more sources of information than the creator’s own experiences, including interviews and public documents. Reports are edited and fact-checked at least twice by at least two Quest editors.
  • Cities: Stories from the rotation cities, including fact-based pieces, relevant assignments (especially LBAs), and opinion or creative pieces based on student experiences in these places. These stories are edited and fact-checked at least twice by at least two Quest editors.
  • Perspectives: Pieces based on the experiences of the student contributor. They can contain other sources of information, but don’t have to. Opinion pieces are edited and fact-checked, if relevant, at least twice by at least two Quest editors.
  • Community: Pieces relevant to Minerva academics and student life.
    • Student Works: Assignments created for Minerva classes or extracurricular activities that students want to share publicly. Student works are reviewed at least twice by at least two Quest editors to ensure that they uphold the content guidelines, but do not need to be edited unless requested by the contributor.
    • Profiles: Stories presenting the experiences of a community member, including interview transcripts. Profiles are edited at least twice by at least two Quest editors and may also be reviewed by the featured community member.
    • Vlogs: Cross-class vlogs are created by a designated vlogger in each cohort to share experiences between Minerva classes and locations. Vloggers apply and are selected by the cross-class vlog manager. The cross-class vlog manager reviews each vlog to ensure it upholds the content guidelines but will not closely edit the video. While public, vlogs are intended for the Minerva student community and are not published on Quest’s main social media pages. Instead, they are published on the Quest’s vlog-specific page and YouTube channel.
    • Tips: Advice from Minerva students to other current and former Minerva students. Tips pieces are edited at least twice by at least two Quest editors.
  • Creative: Art created by Minerva students. Students can anonymously submit creative pieces, which will be reviewed to ensure they meet the content guidelines but will not be edited unless requested by the contributor.
    • Podcasts: Audio stories created by Minerva students. Podcasts will be reviewed for content guideline adherence by at least one Quest editor but will not be closely edited unless requested by the contributor.
    • Film: Video stories created by Minerva students. Films will be reviewed for content guideline adherence by at least one Quest editor but will not be closely edited unless requested by the contributor.
    • Visual Arts: Illustrated and photography stories created by Minerva students. Visuals will be reviewed for content guideline adherence by at least one Quest editor but will not be closely edited unless requested by the contributor.
    • Creative Writing: Poetry and written creative works created by Minerva students. These pieces will be reviewed for content guideline adherence by at least one Quest editor but will not be closely edited unless requested by the contributor.
